Aerogen is an emerging specialty company dedicated to improving
patients' lives by providing innovative inhaled drug products
to advance the treatment of respiratory disorders and chronic
diseases. The company is focused on efficient, convenient
delivery of aerosolised drugs to the lungs, and through
the lungs to the bloodstream.
Aerogen's range of current and future products includes specialised
nebulisers and breath-activated inhalers for marketing by
Aerogen, as well as novel inhalers for leading pharmaceutical
and biotechnology companies.
Aerogen's penny-sized aerosol
generator sets a new performance standard for the aerosolisation
of drugs. Without using propellants, Aerogen's aerosol generator
can produce aerosols tailored for respiratory or systemic
therapy, and efficiently delivers small molecules, peptides
and proteins, in solution or suspension. When the aerosol
generator is incorporated into Aerogen's proprietary nebuliser
or inhaler platforms, the opportunities for creating improved
therapies for patients around the globe are almost limitless.
Aerogen introduced its first commercial product, the Aeroneb® Portable
Nebuliser System, in June 2001 to benefit the four million
respiratory patients in the U.S. who require frequent nebuliser
therapy for the treatment of asthma, chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease (COPD) and cystic fibrosis (CF).
Aerogen's second commercial nebuliser product, the Aeroneb® Professional
Nebuliser System, is designed to improve the administration
of respiratory therapy in hospitals to patients on ventilators,
in emergency rooms or on hospital floors. Both nebuliser
products are designed to deliver commercially available medications
that have been cleared for use with general-purpose nebulisers.
AeroGen, Inc. is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California.
Ehud Ivri founded the company (as Fluid Propulsion Technologies)
in 1991 with a novel method for controlled fluid aerosolisation.
In April 1997, the company name was changed to Aerogen, Inc.
